I feel your pain. Trying not to think about it - I have 2 Bat Mitzvahs upon me in a few years. And yes, at least you are lucky enough to get one of those "buy one get one free" deals. Count your blessings. Good luck with the planning!

Allotting chores to kids, according to their age, makes them responsible, and also teaches them the value of time and money at a very young age.
My kids are 7 and 3. When it came to chores, I just browsed the net and found some chore charts (my kids liked the designs in the website kidrewardzone). We filled up the chores and columns to mark a star in each chore. There is a minus for each negative behavior, like tantrums, not using dustbins for trash, and so on. They would get bucks for each star minus each negative mark. A trip to the park on Saturday, if BOTH get all the stars (here I don't count the negatives)for the week. Now, there are no arguments, yelling, and shouting. Its only "YAAAAYYY..."

Kim, Just think how bad it is when you take a family of 5 skiing! I can't even imagine this and we are just a family of three {so far}. Baseball is definitely a bleachers event for me.

I'm a huge sports fan but have given up on taking my family of 6 to pro sporting events. It's just too expensive. I like high school football and lacrosse. There is a lot of excitement, we know some of the kids and the price is right. The kids don't always want to sit with me as they get older, but that's ok. I have three boys and a little girl. Between the football game, the band, the cheer leaders and the social scene there is enough going on for every one. I took the boys up to West Point in the fall and attended the Army vs. Air Force football game. It was lots of fun.

Because we are homebodies, we had a premium cable plan. We got all the channels for a discounted bundle which included our telephone and broadband internet. We decided that we could do without the home phone and just use our cells, and we also downgraded the cable down to the minimum which reduced our monthly bill by $100.00. We are three weeks into this and it's working well. We do have to use extra discipline to limit our minutes during the daytime. I do a lot more text messages now to save minutes. Then on nights and weekends our plan is free.

"What do we, the parents get out of it?" A Headache of course! lol

I have a similar problem, but it's with my older girls. Soem days, I think they will tear each other's hair out. They are just so different. I think girls can be very mean with words, and we don't accept name-calling in any form athome, of course. But they say stuff in snippy, annoyed, bored, annoying voices that grate on your nerves.

I think that sending them outside is a good idea. Even if only to run aorund the block a few times. I bundle mine up, and send the boys outdoors for 1/2 hour. I used to play outside in this weather, why would I not let them the chance to do the same? :)

Also, the Wii has been a very nice distraction. The kids can play together, and there are so many physical things they can do. All very good.

Good luck! lol

You said it! I really think it's worse in the winter too.....I realize now that my children are not meant to be in the house. They need to be outside with no boundaries running free. There's less opportunity to harm each other that way!

We parents get a big fat headache for years and years until they finally leave home and have their own families. Then, we watch as their stupid kids refuse to share, and we laugh and laugh. In other words...revenge.
